Application

Pharmacueticals:

1. Binding agent‌: HPMC acts as a dry binder in tablet manufacturing, improving granule cohesion and tablet hardness‌.

2. ‌Disintegrant‌: Facilitates rapid disintegration of tablets in aqueous environments‌.

3. ‌Controlled-release matrix‌: Forms gel networks for sustained drug release, especially in oral dosage forms.

4. Film forming‌ agent:

‌Enteric coatings‌: Provides pH-dependent release by forming films that resist dissolution in acidic conditions but release in alkaline environments.

‌Immediate-release coatings‌: Enhances tablet stability and appearance.

5. Lubricant‌: Used in artificial tears and eye drops to improve viscosity and retention on ocular surfaces‌.

Capsule application: HPMC is widely used as a non-animal-derived capsule shell material to replace traditional gelatin capsules, particularly suitable for vegetarian, religious, or allergy-sensitive populations.

Cosmetics:

1. Thickening Agent‌

‌Liquid products‌: Used in shampoos, shower gels, and liquid soaps to improve viscosity and texture‌.

‌Gels‌: Acts as a gelling agent in transparent gels for skincare or hair styling products.

2. Stabilizer & Emulsifier‌

‌Emulsions‌: Prevents phase separation in creams and lotions by stabilizing oil-water interfaces‌45.

‌Suspensions‌: Maintains uniform dispersion of solid particles in scrubs or masks.‌

3. Moisture Retention‌

‌Hydrating creams‌: Enhances water retention in moisturizers, prolonging skin hydration‌.

‌Leave-on treatments‌: Reduces water evaporation in serums or overnight masks.

4. ‌Film-Forming Agent‌

‌Hairsprays & styling products‌: Forms flexible films for hold without stiffness.

‌Peel-off masks‌: Creates a film that can be removed easily after drying‌‌

Foods:

1. Thickening & Stabilizing Agent‌

‌Sauces & dressings‌: Improves viscosity and prevents separation in ketchup, mayonnaise, and salad dressings‌.

‌Dairy products‌: Acts as a stabilizer in yogurt and ice cream to enhance texture and prevent ice crystal formation.

2. Emulsifier & Water Retention‌

‌Baked goods‌: Retains moisture in bread and cakes, extending shelf life‌.

‌Meat products‌: Enhances water binding in processed meats like sausages‌

3. Film-forming & Coating‌

‌Edible films‌: Used for food packaging to extend freshness (e.g., fruit coatings)‌.

‌Confectionery‌: Provides gloss and prevents sticking in candies‌
