HPMC Construction-grade
CAS#: 9004-65-3
Hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose (HPMC) is a versatile non-ionic cellulose ether widely utilized in the construction sector as a critical additive for enhancing the performance of cement-based materials. Its unique properties make it indispensable in modern building applications, particularly in dry-mix mortars and tile adhesives.

1.1 Putty Powder (Interior/Exterior Wall)
Water retention: Prevents putty from cracking and chalking due to rapid moisture loss on fast-drying substrates like cement walls.
Thickening: Increases the viscosity of putty to avoid sagging during construction and ensures smoother application.
Workability improvement: Makes putty easier to apply on walls, and creates a flatter surface after application, reducing rework.

1.2 Tile Adhesives
Water retention: Extends the open time of tile adhesives (the effective time for tile installation after application), ensuring sufficient hydration of cement and other cementitious materials to enhance bonding strength.
Thickening and anti-sagging: Prevents tile adhesives from sliding down due to self-weight after application, especially for wall and ceiling tile installation.
Flexibility enhancement: Reduces brittleness of tile adhesives after curing, minimizing tile falling caused by substrate shrinkage or vibration.

1.3 Cement Mortar
Water retention: Reduces dry-shrinkage cracks in mortar caused by rapid moisture evaporation, improving mortar strength and durability.
Workability improvement: Makes mortar easier to mix uniformly, simplifies application and leveling during construction, and reduces labor intensity.
1.4 Gypsum
Water Retention: HPMC prevents rapid moisture loss during curing, ensuring proper hydration of gypsum and improving bond strength and durability.
Workability Improvement: By increasing viscosity and reducing segregation, HPMC enhances the spreadability and ease of application of gypsum plasters and skim coats.
Adhesion Enhancement: HPMC strengthens bond strength between gypsum products and substrates, minimizing cracking and delamination risks.
Anti-Sagging Properties: It helps maintain material consistency during vertical application, preventing sagging in renders and stucco.

Advantages Over Traditional Additives
Environmental Compatibility: Unlike some synthetic alternatives, HPMC is non-toxic and biodegradable, aligning with green building standards.
Cost-Effectiveness: Its high performance at low dosage rates (typically 0.1–0.5% by weight) reduces material costs while maintaining quality.
Temperature Stability: Performs consistently across varying climates, ensuring reliability in both hot and cold environments.
